ABOUT
ArtsMap aims to develop sustainable dialogues between artists, institutions, non-governmental organizations, the public and individuals by making use of the unifying power of art and culture. ArtsMap is working to strengthen its network financially on a micro scale and will now continue to grow with three new locations alongside Turkey and the Netherlands: Morocco, India and Egypt! It is designed to be an organically growing digital platform. Therefore, we can also say the ArtsMap is a borderless platform for the field of global arts and culture.
The main goals of the ArtsMap are:
– Globally centered mapping of cultural and artistic actors.
– To introduce and bring together partners so that new joint projects can be born.
– To build capacity for creative and sustainable connections.
ArtsMap is side by side with all their network, cultural, artistic institutions, creative industries, festivals, designers, artists, relevant departments of universities, cultural directores of local administrations, policy makers, provincial cultural directorates, state and many more, and all the other actors and practitioners of art and culture.
History
In the first phase, all cultural and artistic institutions, artists, relevant departments of universities, cultural directorates of local administrations, provincial cultural directorates, state and city theaters marked on a digital map. In this way, the ArtsMap allowed all the cultural actors to get to know each other and find sustainable partnerships, to complement each other and their needs. Under the ArtsMap different cultural actors, institutions, and also independent groups in the field shared the same purpose or artists who wanted to realize similar concepts may come together and realize co-productions by simply using this platform to connect.
The most important target of the cultural policy of the ArtsMap is to establish ongoing connections between different parts of the society through arts and culture. Ensuring cultural dialogue and sustainable cultural cooperation between our connections are our main focus. ArtsMap believes that right matches are the key to unlocking our full and existing potential. That’s why it will continue to expand its existing diversity with new partnerships.
The foundation of the ArtsMap platform was laid between November 2017 – February 2019 with the cultural exploration project started. The aim of this exploration was to meet with the Turkish arts and cultural field as well as to create a sustainable dialogue for future projects. 19 selected cities which represented Turkish cultural diversity were selected, to get to know the cultural and artistic actors and to define the needs in the field clearly. As a result of all these semi-structured interviews and introductions, a natural connection was realized between the big cities such as Istanbul and Ankara, as well as started to connect the cultural and artistic network of the rest of the country to each other.
The next step was to bring this newly established wide network together by organizing the conference ‘Making Connections through Arts and Culture’. This conference was organized again together with IKSV and brought important actors from the arts and culture field of Turkey and the Netherlands, as well as representatives from the Ministry of Culture of the Turkish Republic. This conference was physically attended by 750 people and digitally more than 20.000 people which showed us the need for a deeper and sustainable dialogue.
After the conference and after establishing a true connection between the cultural actors of the Netherlands and Turkey, the Dutch Cultural Office have organized an ‘Ongoing Connections’ program in Istanbul, including the first cultural speed dating session in Turkey, in cooperation with 17 different partners such as Goethe Institut, British Council, Institut Francais, SAHA, Istanbul Development Agency, EUNIC Istanbul, European Cultural Foundation, Creative Industries fund NL and more.
ArtsMap is now accessible, inclusive, establishes its network with an egalitarian perspective, and an organically growing global platform. Become a part of ArtsMap. Now register!
